IS WATER SCARCITY A MYTH?

We humans arein various benighted in various ways. One instance being that we don't protect our vital resources. We don't protect what we get in abundance. We don't protect them regardless of knowing that one day the scarcity of that object will come bite us.

Today I am going to write about one of the common but crucial issue in India.

  "WATER SCARCITY"

People who think that this is a trifling or inconsequential topic then please research on it. You'll get an idea how " insignificant or trivial" this crisis is.

"The National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Ayog), Government of India had released a  report ‘Composite Water Management Index ’ in June 2018 and listed Delhi and other 21 cities in India which would run out of groundwater by 2020."

Measures are being taken by the government to make sure that we humans don't run out of the very essential resource needed by us. Let me ask you something - Why can't we put a step forward for this program?

Every small initiative matters. Turning off the tap while brushing, limited water usage during showering, and the most important step which is  to take the initiative to stop the reckless use and wastage of water.

How does it affect us?

"In 2016, the city of Latur experienced a great water shortage. Much of the farming industry came to a halt and created both food insecurity and massive unemployment. Much of the local economy and farming regions nearly collapsed with the citizens having no choice but to use the polluted water.

Delhi has a huge crisis of water and by 2020 Delhi might run out of groundwater. Different conservative estimates that Delhi's water need is 1100 million gallons daily, whereas the supply is only 900 million gallons daily."

We must understand the need to save water not only because it's a necessity but also because our entire life depends on it. Fixing India’s water crisis will need saner policies, meticulous strategy and a massive amount of "public participation".

"Drop by drop forms the ocean." We people must cherish that each drop, because that single drop is worth the entire ocean.

Greta Thunberg a 15 year old climate activist put forward some mind blowing facts in front of the world leaders stating the changes in our biosphere. One particular line that has etched itself into my mind is that:-

“I don’t want you to be hopeful. I want you to panic. I want you to feel the fear I feel every day. And then I want you to act,” she told them.

Are we capable enough to act? Ask yourself.

We must remember that this world is in our hands and this is our story to write, so sit back and think for a moment how do you want this story to end? In disaster? Or in peace?
